Arundel
The Saxon settlement of Arundel became a thriving market town under the Normans. The castle, now the residence of the Duke of Norfolk, was founded in 1067 and was captured twice during the English civil war. In the shadow of the castle walls, in a natural amphitheatre, is the Castle Cricket Ground.
Other prominent buildings include Arundel cathedral and church. There are many other medieval houses hidden behind more modern facades, but the town retains much of its charm due to careful conservation.
